I don't know if Taylor Hicks could perform Sam Cooke's song during the A.I. finals as I'm not versed in all their rules and protocol, but I think it a fitting way to end this season's talent contest. He started his journey on American Idol with accapella, Sam Cooke's great song, "A Change is Gonna Come". Be great to end with what he started with - this is the tune that grabbed all of his fans' attention, and made Taylor memorable and a stand out this season. In the finals, you'd think they'd get a choice of their own to perform. I have heard on the A.I. Soul Patrol site, from a good source (yoda guru) that only top 12 songs can be used. Such a shame.
Check out this site, called Soul-Patrol Radio, listen to Sam Cooke and other soul artists. Website ran by Bob Davis. Soul Patrol, you are going to love it!
lyrics:
A Change Is Gonna Come
(Sam Cooke)
As Performed Sam Cooke (1964)
I was born by the river in a little tent
And just like the river, I've been running ever since
It's been a long time coming
But I know a change is gonna come
It's been too hard living, but I'm afraid to die
I don't know what's up there beyond the sky
It's been a long time coming
But I know a change is gonna come
I go to the movie, and I go downtown
Somebody keep telling me "Don't hang around"
It's been a long time coming
But I know a change is gonna come
Then I go to my brother and I say, "Brother, help me please"
But he winds up knocking me back down on my knees
There've been times that I've thought I couldn't last for long
But now I think I'm able to carry on
It's been a long time coming
But I know a change is gonna come
Yeah-yas, "a change a gonna come" and it's Taylor Hicks.
Groove on Soulman.
