Yeah, sometimes I feel like I'm sleepwalking too. Or hallucinating... I really like this guy, he's gorgeous - and Bobby Dylan's son.

Angelic Musings
Angels have been a study in fascination throughout mankind's history. Questions such as whether they exist, what really is their role in the big scheme of things regarding the afterlife and humanity have been pondered by religious scholars as well as laymen.
There are talks about the differing varieties of angels, you know the Guardian Angels that supposedly watch over folks, the archangels who are viewed as the more active and warrior type, and the chubby cherubs depicted in Renaissance art that flutter around images of Christ and his followers. So much debate and talk over celestial beings that may or may not actually exist.
There have been movies made about angels, some of my favorites being "Michael" with John Travolta, "Heaven Can Wait" with Julie Christie and Warren Beaty, and not to omit the classic, "Miracle on 34th Street".

Why am I talking about Angels tonight? Well, outside the fact that Mr. Hicks is featured as one in the Broadway production of "Grease"? It seems one of the Taylor Hicks fans has started her own blog about them. She sees them in clouds in the sky whenever she points her trusty cell phone heavenwards. There are people who claim to actually see and photograph angels, seeing them in cloud structures. You know, whatever soothes your soul I guess, go for it.
"She Talks to Angels" Black Crowes
Or it could be just wishful thinking. (I'm leaning that direction.) When I was a kid one of our favorite pastimes was lying in the yard and making shapes out of the clouds. It's like that - or is it? ha.

Taylor Hicks Sunday Morning Going 'Round
A whole lotta shakin' going on Broadway, apparently as yet another theater reviewer comments positively on Taylor Hicks' Big New York Adventure. In this article, the writer draws an Elvis comparison. It's that glitter suit, man.

Not everyone agrees that Taylor Hicks in a Broadway musical such a kewl idea. On the mfoyaorphans site, Keepin' it Real, they continue their satirically driven Taylor Hicks' career coverage. Balancing it out, sitting on the other side of the fan rail, the fans who may deem it verging on blasphemy that anyone offer any opinions on the direction he take in his career. Yep, they just want that you stop that "Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda" mentality right now and shut the hell up.
What do I know? Man, I'm one of those morons that, if I'd actually purchased something a friend wanted, allegedly for that friend, I'd just give it to them.
I am that stupid.

Certainly within the Taylor Hicks' Fan Camp there are many who love to spend hours trying to anticipate his thoughts, ideas, lifestyle. Unless you're psychically gifted - no not psychotically gifted - that may be the only option, since Mr. Hicks is not going to vlog his way into our hearts like Jason Castro which in some ways is too bad. I love Castro's open minded and honest approach to the fans and the world in general. To find a happy medium in the Taylor Hicks' communication world would be a welcome change. ('medium', as in middle ground, not as in a happy psychic.) Yes, I too am guilty of the "Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda" game.
Regarding seeing some mind-altering, verging on psychic Taylor Hicks' news capabilities, there is one site seemingly privy to the "inside" information. This individual has been "Johnny on the Spot" when it comes to Taylor Hicks photographs and now audio. From the mouth of Taylor to the ears of fans, this inside sound scoop was presented today by TaysHarmonica. Don't know the where and the when this audio was recorded but it sounds very clear, studio quality. There are background noise as if it was a club performance, but that could have been layered in by a mixer... So tell me, which one of the Taylor Hicks associates are they? Reminds me just a little of that Ray and Lamont Goldfish web site. Loved how they were always spreading the word about their "Daddy".
Touching one more time on the Modern Whomp site that came into being mid-month, mystery solved as anyone following Mr. Hicks' should know by now. Man, I was hoping it would turn into some kind of obtuse and intriguing trading recipes and Hicks site, but instead clicks to the Hicks' information deficit "Myspazz" site. I sent in my contribution but it was never posted, so I'll share this with you in the event y'all are out doing some grilling today.
Grilled Veggies
(Pre-wash well. d'oh)
2 zucchini, cut into 2" chunks
2 yellow squash, cut into 2" chunks
8 ounces fresh whole mushrooms (That's about 2 pkgs.)
2 red and green bell peppers, cut into 2" chunks (Orange or yellow nice color variances.)
2 medium red onions, cut into wedges (or one large juicy one)
2 ears sweet corn, cut into 2" chunks
16 whole cherry tomatoes
8 ounces teriyaki sauce
1 ounce Soy Sauce
1 ounce Yoshida's if ya have it.
Wash vegetables except mushrooms. Brush mushrooms clean. (Yes, dirt left on the fungi is not appetizing...) Prepare vegetables according to recipe. Cook corn in boiling water for about 10 minutes. Toss vegetables in teriyaki sauce. Thread vegetables onto skewers. Place on grill over medium-hot heat. Baste occasionally with teriyaki/soy/Yoshida's sauce. Grill 20 minutes or until tender.
Optional, but for those times you might want a lil' something sweet, add chunks of fresh pineapple. It's rather Hawaiian - ish... (I highly recommend the pineapple.)
If you must have meat, big prawns go very well with this combination.
Go on, light that fire and happy grilling, happy Sunday.

Taylor Hicks IS the Word
Michael Reidel gives a reluctant nod toward "Grease" despite critics' panning of the musical. It seems Taylor Hicks has been making a positive mark on The Great White Way with his appearance in the musical. Ticket sales are elevated according to insiders, at 150,000 - that's dollars - per week since Mr. Hicks joined the cast. In fact the show has morphed somewhat to include more Teen Angel time than ever before.
Mr. Reidel writes, "Whenever Hicks whips out his harmonica, the audience goes nuts.
They're having such a blast that the "Grease" megamix at the end of the show - this is where the critics ran screaming from the theater - now runs 10 minutes, with Hicks singing the title song and then playing it on his harmonica.
Meanwhile, the producers of the show are no longer flinching from the critical blows but are starting to have fun with them."
Interesting how Broadway.TV puts it, Who Needs A Tony When You Have Taylor Hicks?. Naysayers can hold forth all they want with Taylor making a mistake taking on this role, I stand by my assertion that this is all "Win" for Taylor Hicks.
Taylor is taking a small break from the show to perform on the Capitol Fourth extravaganza. Interested Taylor Hicks fans can watch it on your local PBS stations. It will be good to see Taylor on television again.

"Bittersweet Surrender" Big Heads 'n Monsters...
Big Head Todd and the Monsters, man this is one of those bands that has been underrated and under-appreciated. They've had platinum albums and been tossed by the big boy lables and yet they continue. Currently they're listing Big Records as their label - founder came from Zomba Records - aka associate; Sony BMG. Man Sony BMG, they have to own parts of everybody.
July 12th the band will be in one of Texas' most scenic little 'burbs, New Braunfels. Rumor has it they may be making a Dallas stop. Nothing confirmed on the websites yet. I'll be heading out West about that time so won't make it to New Braunfels to catch them, but hopefully the Dallas stop will happen.
Love these guys even if the lead singer bears a resemblance to my second husband. ha. Heard this tune tonight on my way in from a job on LoneStar 92.5. Lovely tune. Adore steel guitar...

Jason keeping his word on communication updates, he vlogs from his room in LA. In Castro's words, his myspace hitting 3 million views, "...has everything to do with you all." Seems he's lonely and looking forward to touring. Doubt he'll have to worry about loneliness once that commences July 1st.

"Angels" In Musical Life
Arc Angels, a little ol' band from Texas classified as a blues rock band put together in that Liberal Concentration Camp in Texas we call, "Austin", in the 1990s. If there's a certain familiar sound to what these guys' do; some were part of darling Stevie Ray Vaughn's ensemble back in the day the man walked this Earth.
Sadly a drug addiction has had play in the game and stymied this group from achieving the kind of success they really should be feeling.
I was here at this venue: Gypsy Tea Room, Dallas 2005. It was Much Fun, I'm one of the "Cat callers" in the crowd: Yes I'm sent by an Angel...
Rare Letterman appearance: Sound so-so but visuals - very nice:

The Mystery Dreamland site Morphed...
It seems there is indeed more than just a rather ambiguous catch-phrase invented behind the Modern Whomp name. More to come later on that.
Suffice to say, anyone interested on the who and the what that started that curiously vegan site offering a variety of smoked and grilled vegetable Dreamy delights should know by now where that originated.
It's all about the Yoshida's, folks.

Broadway, Modern Whomp and ....Movies?
Taylor Hicks has been repeating in the on-air and live interviews that he's viewing this Broadway venture as a vehicle to get his 'feet wet' into acting. Naturally that indicates he may ideas about getting into film and not limiting himself to pressed plastic. Taylor Hicks did start his American Idol journey with that Sam Cooke classic, "A Change a Gonna Come", which may very well be exactly what the man lives for - change.
Taylor's still dipping his toes into the musical waters, he's set to release his pre-Idol music on Vanguard Records, August 12; this being one of his projects he's spoken about over the past year. Hicks is not actually signed with Vanguard Records as some on-line sources have indicated, instead he's marketing his music under his own label, Modern Whomp Records. Make no mistake, Hicks has no affiliation with the individual who started the same-named magazine, Modern Whomp Magazine.
Revisiting my past thoughts on this whole 'Modern Whomp' phrase, I'm just not sure what it means. Too, seriously doesn't it sound rather self-grandiose to go and try to create a whole new music genre for yourself? Perhaps if the Post-Idol CD would have held more of a definitive sound and vibe, set itself truly apart rather than being so Pop based I'd feel differently about that name. Taylor tied the phrase, "Modern Whomp" to that CD which may have been the mistake. Should his next endeavor include that elusive definitive sound fitting for a genre rename, that's another matter. Likely he's done some re-mastering and possibly remixing of the tunes on this new release, but hopefully not a great deal of bells and whistles added. Often, less is much more.
Regarding speculation that Mr. Hicks may have eyes turned toward Hollywood, there have been multiple singers turned actor including Cher, Ice Cube, Mark Wahlberg, Jon Bon Jovi, Snoop Dogg, Elvis, Will Smith. Mariah Carey tried her acting skills out in that forgettable bomb, "Glitter", showing why this is not a good idea for everyone. Girl needs stick to the music.
Back in the glorious big haired days, Prince released "Purple Rain", a semi-autobiographical offering that went over well at the Box office and benefited his music career. Thing is, as happens to many famous folk, Prince went a little over the rainbow and his videos and music on-line now look and sound something like THIS. Hopefully Mr. Hicks will never decide to let the life in the public eye affect him to this degree. Yeah, and the name thing...See, Prince got to thinking he was above paltry spoken names and decided to create a symbol for his moniker instead. Sad, because Prince has such massive talent, just shows genius and crazy often walk hand in hand... (My symbolic name?)
Then too there were offerings from The King...Seriously, Mr. Hicks never let anyone talk you into doing something like this bit of "Monkey Business".
video c/o Natalia68
Now on the other hand, Will Smith is one of my favorites to cross between music and movies. He's funny, dynamic and charismatic. Men in Black one of my favorite movie series.
I'm looking forward to this new offering from Mr. Smith; I love superhero tales and this one looks fantastic. What's not to love about a guy who flies with a bottle of whiskey in his hand? Comes out July 2nd.

With a Banjo on Hicks' Knee
Taylor Hicks provides an interview with a local station - by local I'm talking New York City - Interview CW11 - to talk "Grease" and his related 'activities'. This video shows a clip of Hicks doing the dance with the cast. Man, I had to rewind that a few times. Nice moves in that glitter suit Soulman... About 2:03 into the vid cast. I may have to rethink a few things regarding this guy.
Definitely Hicks is a good interview. He's affable, slightly spastic in an endearing manner and obviously wants to interact within the on-air format. That brings me to fan interaction and communication. It's coming down in an overall seeming consensus the main obstacle this guy's facing is a...

Taylor Hicks vs Puppet Regime?
Taylor Hicks, my favorite media punching bag once again getting pummeled. The man keeps on getting back up and swinging, refusing to go down.
Seems this week in what can only be compared to near VFTW style he was photographed holding a Jonas Brother's poster among crying and screaming fans as the guys arrived to do Regis and Kelly. I'd think that VFTW would have seriously loved what he was doing, but perhaps since they did not have the video up Della Terza missed the punchline. Mr. Hicks did as many a 'Worster' minded funbot might; he encouraged the JB fans and had a great time doing it. Reason Mr. Hicks was even present? He was there to get prepped for his appearance scheduled the following day.
Bigger topic than the blasting of Mr. Hicks holding a Tweenband poster, hanging with screaming and Ashley Furl-esque fans, his Broadway endeavor as Teen Angel in "Grease". It seems many in the Hicks' fanbase like to and want to hold on to what their initial impression was of the man during his run on that reality show that seems so long ago to me.
You see, during that facet of Mr. Hicks' career, and I mean 'facet' because this man is capable of so much more than what so many of the folks who found him on Idol imagine he has to offer. Most fans following him on Idol began assuming they knew him in so far as to what type of artist he really was and how his career would unfold. Taylor Hicks was pegged as the next "Elvis", the next "Joe Cocker".
It's a curious phenomenon watching how fans of someone can create what image feels right to them, regardless of what the individual object of their interest may have actually in their heart and soul. I'll elaborate, I've located some excellent examples this morning.
In a step back to Memory Lane, most who began following Taylor Hicks while he was on Idol became avid devotees to the now defunct Gray Charles site. "Gray" as he became called presented himself as a music - make that "real" music aficionado. He blogged about more than Mr. Hicks, offering introductions to bands and artists outside mainstream that he enjoyed and so garnering his own base of fans. Gray strove to cultivate an aura of elitism, of a more intellectually guided music front. Followers of Gray's consistently wrote how Gray educated them, taught them about music. He was mentor, teacher, leader to many in the Hicks Movement on the show. I've known many folks like Gray. I got it.
For a short time, Taylor became a part of the Gray Charles site as interview subject, commentator and visitor. Gray had been a pivotal blogger that built up a devoted voting block for Mr. Hicks. Taylor was depicted as this quirky and unique undiscovered bar room struggling musician with the heart of an old school bluesman. That image is what many wanted to see in Mr. Hicks, what many wanted to hear. Many want to think he's this solemn, deep, anguished soul reaching out through his music. They want to box him up and keep him this way - forever. To travel to those intimate venues and sit in smoke filled rooms like you'd find back decades ago and watch him bring back the Howling Wolf era, White Boy, Blue-Eyed Soul style.
"Smoke Stack Lightning" LYRICS

That's fine and dandy and a nice imagery, but man, what about The Man? Perhaps he could do that, but in his heart and soul that may be not all he wants. I'm seeing a light and a sparkle in Mr. Hicks that belies the solemnity, the whole living the Blues deal. I see a man who wants out in the sun to shine and share more than one side of himself. Taylor Hicks is a guy possessing a wacky sense of humor and perhaps that's disconcerting to some. I read how some fans question his business sense, call him nothing more than a salesman. Man, if you don't sell yourself nobody else will. That's the very trait that got Gray's attention about the guy and mine.
Besides Taylor Hicks ability to work the medium of the reality show, he indicates some serious talent as evidenced in this offering from The Rehearsals, this what was expected from Mr. Hicks rather than that post-Idol offering.

Speaking of Taylor's 'salesmen' attributes, someone on MJ's wrote, "...I’m wondering when people will start realizing that he’s a lot more talk than he is action. He’s a salesman, point blank. “Sure” he’s recording his album in NYC, “sure” the DVD is coming out…(I think that was due like 1 year ago, right?). He’s a good talker. But fails to deliver on promises, time and time again.
The bottom line is, Hicks didn’t deliver. Now he’s on Broadway. Whoopee. I’m sure he’ll be getting a Grammy because of it. Ya think? Um, I don’t."
Thing is, that theory of thought and conception, whether or not you might agree with it, continues among the Taylor Hicks fanbase. Many cleave to the Gray Charles train of thought about what is real music and what's garbage. They don't want a salesman selling "used cars" and telling tall tales, they want the Truth. That's their right, hell they know what they like. I'm seeing many fans frustrated with the lack of perceived follow through with release dates and material. Honestly, Mr. Hicks has been talking about that DVD for a long time now and still nothing on the market. Time is important, too much goes by and the folks who wanted the material will have completely lost interest.
Word to the Wise, Time is Money. Your word should be your Bond. One plausible and possible theory I have; perhaps Mr. Hicks is waiting to release that DVD to coincide with his Fall CD. A double whammy marketing ploy in which each item feeds from the other. One idea, bundle the CD and DVD together, a sort of Taylor Hicks compilation of sound and video.
What hits me when reading some of the Taylor Hicks fan sites, blogs is what some of the past "Gray" members write. Things like, "Well call me selfish and narcissistic cause I dont (sic) really care if he is happy. I have supported him through thick and thin, I (meaning one of his many fans) have weathered constant ridicule and have remained steadfast in my opinion that he is talented as hell and has a large reserve of yet untapped talent. I have done my part and then some and now its time for him to do his.
If he doesnt (sic) have Idol standing in his path or Clive or any other of those obstacles then I expect him to deliver the real Taylor Hicks without excuses on the new CD.
I will not tolerate anything less. I’ll cross him off my Easter list faster than you can say carrot."
Now that's clever and funny, Easter carrots and all, but it's that mentality which challenges my way of thinking. What I'm reading is simply another version of the, "If you don't do what I want, I won't love you anymore!" ruse - add humor. All I can say is don't let the door...
Further commentary found on the Broadway topic, "I was kind of surprised that Taylor took the “Grease” gig. I had this whole other scenario in my head for him when he seemed to drop completely off the radar and was only doing charity golf tournaments. I imagined that he was deliberately staying out of the public eye and avoiding the cheap “Idol has-been’ gigs... working on a new album of all original material... departure from his “modern womp” album, something raw, bluesy, and with very minimal production. I imagined ... after he had laid low for a sufficient period of time, he would give a long, in depth interview to a writer for the New York Times or Rolling Stone... reveal the real story of how he went from adored Idol to punchline and whipping boy for 19E. There would be a groundswell of sympathy for him and he would parlay his anti-idol status by playing small, hip venues.".
This simply reinstates desire for a more traditional folk hero, like portrayed from Gray's and off Idol, perhaps deviating from the life Mr. Hicks may desire for himself. Prime example of the "This is My Dream Taylor" Fan. key word in that statement, "imagined", although I am in agreement regarding the minimalist production aspect for the next CD.
There are some Taylor Hicks hangers on who are sympathetic to his new Teen Angel venture, "...Well, what we expected was one thing; what he expected was another. Reality is something else again. I think the man is doing what he needs/wants to do for himself at this point. Does he still want to be a successful musician? Of course. When Regis asked what he wanted, Taylor said to be a musician before he said anything else."
Then there are the usual detractors who compared Mr. Hicks taking this role on Broadway to selling burgers through a drive-through window to get his name in the spotlight again. I know, ridiculous. Thing is to anyone watching to see what Taylor Hicks may be up to next, this is one Mission Accomplished. Word is out, Mr. Hicks' name is in lights - BIG ones and his images are out - in forty foot - check that, perhaps 80 foot tall glory.
You know what? I say, Groove on Soulman.

Taylor Hicks Drops In on Regis and Kelly, Again
Taylor Hicks should be on 'going out to dinner' terms with Regis and his co-host Kelly Ripa. Taylor Hicks returns to the show to perform "Beauty School Drop Out" the number he's performing in "Grease". It's Broadway Week on Regis and Kelly, so natch, they have to have Mr. Hicks drop in.
I think Mr. Hicks' previous visit to the show was during the show's annual Wedding Special Week. He was the selected singer for the winning couple's wedding. He and Kelly Ripa had a great time partying in that event. Kelly's always seemingly ready to give the Soulman some love and affection and commends his being "Gorgeous!" after his performance. Kelly praised his look, "from head to toe". The silver and black look absolutely fabulous on him.
The only video I have been able to find on his performance on the show was this one circulating on all the blogs, out on RedLasso. It cuts off the ending of his interview time. I have got to get myself that capability to transfer video on television to my computer...
I think Mr. Hicks did a great job, his delivery is fun, smiling, mellow. His vocals sound very good, he puts out such a smooth vibe. He makes a devilishly fun Teen Angel.

I Thought it Was My Fever....
Taylor Hicks front and center in my email box this morning, squeeing over the Jonas Brothers. I've been 'under the weather' sleeping for what seems a week with fever. What do my 'Rip Van Winkle' eyes spy as I blearily try and read my emails? Taylor Fangurling out over the Jonas Brothers with a herd of Tweentards. Well, or so it would seem. Figuring Mr. Hicks was in full rowdy form, hanging outside the studios of Regis and Kelly, this video I found on youtube confirms it.
The reality of the moment have The Jonas Brothers soon to arrive at the studio to promote their upcoming new Disney movie, "Camp Rock" which premiers June 20th on the Disney Channel. My youngest daughter is currently anxiously awaiting that debut. She became a Jonas Brother fan after I took her to see that 3-D Hannah Montana movie - they were 'guest' performers in the movie.
Check out this youtube feature c/o yesitsme9, and you get the whole goofy story. Man, I've said it before, but Mr. Hicks comedic bent is downright "John Cleese-ian".
As the youtube starts you see the tweenie girls milling about, some doing the "Ashley Furl" tears. About a minute in, Hicks comes in from the back and while holding one of the posters shows the little girls how to really scream. hahaha.
Of course annoying "We Hate Hicks" blogs and sites are working this to the best negative. Frankly, most folks without the benefit of a working laugh track, are clueless when it comes to humor.

"Guaranteed"
Man, I'm having this acoustic Eddie Veddar love time. I blame Jason Castro. Why you ask? Because this man has that same ability to capture your mind, heart and emotions. I think Veddar is completely more effective acoustically than when he's amped - and for that Jason comes to mind - the emotion. It's there, live, simple and very real.

Taylor Hicks' Angelic Salute - on Regis and Kelly
I'm not a big Regis and Kelly fan, I find a great deal of their On-Air banter to be rather pretentious and self-gratifying, but hey, some folks obviously like that. Sure they 'give back' now and again, but for the most part it's all about them and their great New York lifestyle. I'm not bitter, don't get me wrong, I just find some of the parts of the show completely boring and pointless so opt to not watch - if - I'm home.
Taylor Hicks is now playing the role of Teen Angel in the Broadway showing of "Grease" to repeat something that's being talked about all over the internet. This production came about out of a reality spawned endeavor, too. I actually watched the damn reality offering, never did cast a vote. I liked ol' Max Crumm though, he was charismatic and fun during the contest. I was completely charmed by his admitted slacker ways and those big ol' ears and freckles. The gal who won the part of Sandy, she's gorgeous, but wasn't my favorite.
Mr. Hicks has performed on Regis and Kelly in the past so this new only in that he's representing Broadway now not American Idol. Apparently Regis and Kelly are doing some kind of Broadway special thing this week and are having Taylor Hicks and the cast appear to do a few numbers. One good thing, perhaps he'll do that "Beauty School Drop Out" tune and we'll have better video.

Taylor Hicks Blinded by the (Broadway) Lights
Taylor Hicks tries to retain eyesight - blinded by the light. It looks like a pretty chaotic greeting for Mr. Hicks as he prepares for his time in the Broadway spotlights.

Jason Castro - Video from his Room!
Jason Castro's lil' sister Jackie shoots some late night video after his return from Florida. Touch of sunburn on his face, that and a smile.
Rickey.org had news that perhaps David Cook, Carly Smithson and Jason Castro were going to do "Barracuda" together on tour. Of course, the idiots with Idol nixed that. Likely they'll be all dancing around to some inane Pop Tart tune from thirty years ago that only your Grandma would enjoy. So...no shirtless drummer boy it seems. Such a shame.

Taylor Hicks Fans, There is NO Guarantee.
Sometimes, I think the folks who dub themselves 'Soul Patrol' and Taylor Hicks fans only imagine they know what they want. Hitting the reality button, it seems that when they each signed up as fans for the man, their preconceived notions and impressions have had to go through some changes. Perhaps that's why so many are in turmoil with what really drew them to Mr. Hicks.
Was it the Sam Cooke, "A Change a Gonna Come"? No, I think that's what perhaps grabbed some initial attention. I'm of the thought process that what captured the viewers of American Idol during Hicks' reign on the show, his "NO guts, NO Glory" attitude . So why now when Mr. Hicks makes decisions to carry that life force that is his wild and restless spirit, the very thing that make some decide to bail out of his fan base?
Hoops this man won't jump through. Taylor Hicks won't sit when you tell him to "sit". He won't "stay" on command. So what were you looking for when you sat on your asses and cast all those votes while he was on that reality show? Did you think you could make him your puppet? Pull your strings and make him dance and jump? Think again.
To think that he owes us as fans, is right and true. In saying that I mean it only so far as he needs to honestly recognize, communicate and respect those who follow him. To think he owes fans in so much as to play organ grinder monkey to their specified music, that's another matter. Taylor Hicks is not your monkey, he's not your slave, no matter how much money you have to spend to follow him.
If you're a fan who appreciates the man - the man as he stands - you might be in for a fun and interesting ride. Full of twists and turns and quirks. If you're in this with Hicks to try and dictate, you're in the Wrong Place.
To appreciate Taylor Hicks you have to have a place in your heart that knows where 'those wild horses run'. You have to have a place in your soul open to that free spirit. Anyone who knows horses knows that you can't tame Mustangs. They have to want to be your friend. It is similar to that.
You Run Taylor Hicks. This Sun Shines for you.

Taylor Hicks vs Schedule: Teen Angel Taking the Priority
Taylor Hicks is backing out of scheduled appearances almost as soon as they're announced lately. First Wolf Trap is canceled, and Bo Bice steps up to fill the void, and now it's known that Mr. Hicks went and simply no-showed for the Los Angeles Share Charity event. Perhaps it was the thought of honoring ol' 'Uncle' Nigel Lythgoe that turned him away? That might do it for me. He did make it to Italy to fulfill his obligations there, and man, who wouldn't make sure they were on that flight for some Mediterranean fun in the sun.
Realistically, looking at the travel time, the looming of - this weekend - Taylor's making his Broadway debut, it's understandable that he must select where his physical presence and time be spent. This Broadway gig, although mourned and panned by some of Taylor Hicks' fans as well as some of the Soul Patrol groupies Is a Big Deal. It's something new, inventive. It's Mack-Daddy wild.
To play that Guardian Angel from above who sings to guide Frenchy when she drops out of beauty school, a pivotal yet small role. Past Teen Angels have been Donny Most, Davy Jones, Chris Colfer, Eddie Mekka, Chubby Checker, John Farnham, Mary Bond Davis, Jennifer Holliday, Al Jarreau, Darlene Love, Felix Healy.
Speaking of Davy Jones, it made me think of this: (Davy Jones and The Monkees)

Back to Angels and the angle, I think if Taylor Hicks works this part the right way, makes it something spectacularly cool, even while wearing (I hope) those fluffy wings, it will turn his career. Certainly the man could use a new slant and change is often a good thing. Many folks fear change, but not this guy!
Really, for Taylor Hicks to dive into this "Grease" gig, it is a very brave, fabulously outrageous and daring move. I love this quality the guy seems to own. Times like this when he just goes off the wall, remind me of why I continue to follow his news, his career. He's just bloody fascinating.
Taylor Hicks obviously, is not afraid to put himself out there - as in the American Idol era - with wild abandon. This is one of the main qualities I first adored in this guy. The fact he had a distinct way of presenting himself, musically, did not hurt either. Naysayers, I understand where you're coming from, but there's something about Mr. Hicks doing this Broadway gig that glimmers of potential genius. You might just have to look at this issue while standing upside down and looking sideways.
Man, Taylor Hicks, you go put those wings on baby, show them how to fly.

Castrocopia Member's Castro Day Post
Abrahammy's Post was one of the highlights of the presentation portion of Jason Castro Day in Rockwall. She nailed it in concise phrasing, making this an appropriate salutation to Jason last Thursday. I remember thinking when I heard it how very perfect this is for Castro's Day. Not doing forums much I had no idea where it came from, so it is great to know whom to give credit where credit is due.
One part of her post:
He entered the show as a semifinalist who had no face time in Hollywood. He got to the Final Four. That’s remarkable.
He specialized in quiet, heart-felt performances in a show that measures singing ability in the volume and length of glory notes. He got to the Final Four. That’s amazing.
He’s a genuine amateur with very little professional experience, and he went up against show business veterans who have been working at this for years. He got to the Final Four. That’s astounding.
Castrocopia.com is one great Jason Castro on-line fan forum and blog, the equivalent to what bonafidebice.com is to Bo Bice. It's well crafted and well written. I've even joined it and I rarely do that... My thoughts, how does anyone have time to keep up with sites like these?
Great job Abrahammy.

Taylor Hicks Cancels the Beatles: Bo Bice Picks up the Slack
Posted on Taylor Hicks Myspace yesterday, Saturday, May 31, 2008 he writes,
Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band will have to "tribute" without Taylor Hicks. But wait, folks, lo and behold, Bo Bice will be there in his place. Interesting that we saw Bo Bice on the show (Idol) this season twice - once performing then again at the finals, and now this change up. (I did get that text from the Biceman yesterday...)
Check out some Bo Bice tunes at his Myspace, he's got my favorite tune in the rotation, "Sinner in a Sin". Love. that. song.
One day I'm going to wake up
And I know that the sun is gonna shine
Keeps on shinin' down
One day I know clouds, they're gonna part
Yes and I know it's rays they will find me
Keeps on shining down LYRICS.
What, did some kind of agreement with American Idol happen in which one of the Idols would substitute? You know we got to have all that Beatles exposure early in the competition this season. Ah, I kid.
Anyway, I imagine with Taylor Hicks going all Teen Angel in "Grease" through September - obviously he did not have time to be at the Beatles' tribute. Ya know, can't be in more than one place at a time. Gotta pick, gotta choose. I'm thinking three months with Grease pays hella more than the Sgt. Peppers gig.

Wolf Trap Cancelled
Hey Soul Patrol. Sadly, as most of you know, I won't be doing Beatles Tribute in Virgina. I know a lot of you bought tickets and I want you to know that I was as excited to be doing the show as you all were to be coming out. I'm truly sorry the scheduling conflict happened and I hope some of you will make it up to The Big Apple to catch me in Grease. I also hope to see you out when I'm back on the road in the fall. See y'all soon.
Taylor

Jason Castro, "Deep in the Heart of Texas" Ukulele Style!
The Texas Department of Tourism needs to pick this rendition up of Jason Castro singing "Deep in the Heart of Texas" for a new ad campaign. Jason played it with his ukulele following his "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" performance in Rockwall.
I've already suggested it to the advertising department. Might be an idea for Castro fans, drop them an email, mention that song and how much you think it a cool fit. Here's a link to the Advertising department, you can scroll down to "contact us" and write them a note. Hell, it can't hurt. Look how Alabama utilizes their Idols, Bo Bice, Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard. The Alabama Tourism Department mention them in tourism material, plus created huge billboards with their likenesses. Sure, Jason Castro did not win, but he certainly made an impact on the show.
Jason Castro's performance with that little ukulele created Idol history with iTunes sales, as well as bringing back a reminder of the late Israel Kamakawiwo Ole's great version of the song. Castro influenced the sales of Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s Over the Rainbow to a resurgence of #8 on the iTunes Top 20.
