Monday Morning Taylor Hicks News: The Eve Before the CD Drops

I'm short on time this morning as Monday is conference call day. Scanning the alerts this morning I decided to catch and gather some to have as sort of a historical reference for the blog.
Howard Cohen gives his review on "The Distance", Miami Herald.

To get the bonus tracks for this CD buyers have to jump stores. One track, "Hide Nor Hair" can be accessed if you purchase the disc through Wal-Mart. "Indiscriminate Acts of Kindness" through Target, and "Yes We Can" through iTunes. You can also just purchase the straight CD sans bonus tracks through amazon.com and other outlets. Marketing strategy? Apparently so, I mean why put out a record with all three bonus tracks when you can hit folks for three? Feel free to google.

Taylor Hicks appears this week on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Wednesday, March 11th. Humorously he's appearing the same day as Carol Burnett. I keep hoping one day Mr. Hicks will throw this Black Sheep fan a "Carol Burnett"; (yeah, I know doubtful) if you recall, on Burnett's show she tugged her ear to say "Hi" to her Mom or something.

This site has links to the radio stations, "The Distance blogspot" playing Taylor's songs.

Taylor Hicks is artist of the Week on aceshowbiz.com.

Connie Phillips writer, editor on Blogcritics.org writes up her review of "The Distance" hit link: blogcritics.org.

MJ had this linked - Taylor Hicks' ABC Interview.

After cleaning house yesterday, and popping in and out of Its All Grey's blogspot, we went out to dinner so, bad fan that I am, I missed out on the Taylor Hicks' DJ experience courtesy of the folks at KSDW 100.3.

I did get a kick out of reading the ladies at Chill's this morning; they were busy providing comments last evening as they listened. Apparently Mr. Hicks was in fine form and to their delight giving that Soul Patrol shout out as he did his thing. These ladies love some Taylor Hicks

I really dig this band's sound. Taylor featured them on his KSDW 100.3 guest show.

Sunny, Have seen a few good reviews of the CD, but overall the critics are not giving it a thumbs up. Really doesn't matter to me, the critics don't control my wallet, I buy what pleases me.

Yeah, I was at Chill's last night, got a kick out of him saying SP throughout, some had said he finally stopped saying, I didn't think he would. It is a shout out to his original fans and don't see anything wrong with it.

Looking forward to seeing him on Ellen this week and getting the CD.

  2. He was supposed to be on Craig Ferguson's show, too, which I was looking forward to. (I have a crush on Craig.) I haven't seen any info about that, but they're taping a show with Julie Louis Dreyfus on the 11th. That would be a great match up for Taylor. Remember she had a line on her show last year about how she was having an imaginary affair with Taylor Hicks? haha.

Well, that appearance was supposed to happen the week the CD came out, wonder if they'll still get it in? *fingers crossed*

  3. JI, I don't care what he says, either, just sometimes that whole SP shout with the Ray bend is a bit cheesy.LOL

I would have liked to have heard it but reading you guys was fun too. :) I mean that in a nice way I'm not being snarky.

Carly, did not watch that show but that would be a good match up since she said that! ahhaha!

Sunny, Comment not taken as snarky, I know many do not like to hear the SP shout outs, but I just think he is reaching out to his original fan base in that way, cheesy or not, he was good last night. Played what he liked all old stuff that I really enjoyed, it really was a great selection of songs.

Thanks for the Citizen Cope mention Sunny. I liked their sound too. Leave it to Taylor...

I'm just happy that the reviews this time around are better overall than last time around:) It's kind of interesting that some of them seem to echo what some of the fans have been saying (i.e. a disconnect, the Achy Breaky thing, interruption of fluidity in trying to be too many things.) I'll bet Seven Mile Breakdown emerges as a critics fave.:)

  6. Did you see this review, sunny? This guy noticed the same thing you did:

"his awkward overpronunciation of the word "senorita" is almost charming."

Full preview now on the regular AOL site. I'm giving it a listen now.
In my humble opinion listening to it IT'S THE SAME Taylor I fell in love with on AI. I Love ONCE UPON A LOVER. Yea, I know he doesn't have a spanish accent BUT neither did Rob Thomas on Smooth and that song was HOT too. LOL. I liked the first CD but this one I like even better. I'm more than willing to buy this one and can't wait to see how he matures with each CD that comes after. As far as different bonus tracks at different outlets well, that's just a sign of the times. I'm sure the stores are really pushing for this especially from the newer artists with less than sky rocketing sales.

  8. Hi Dee, the reviews popping up this morning are not bad. Glitches pointed out here and there but so far so good.

I was angsting over the lack of more harmonica, felt the recording versions still so far left of how he represents live a shame. Don't like the copying of Achy Breaky Heart, but there are some nice tunes on it.

I'm going to go out today and pick one up - we'll see if the stores work this one out better than his last one.

This work is better than the first one, but still missing some of the joie de vive he brings live.

Caryl, just read that review. *grins*

littlewing, overall that "Seven Mile Breakdown" and possibly that "Maybe You Should" song will be the next singles released. Citizen Cope, pretty cool music.

Yes I wanted more Harp too. Personally I think this CD could be re-recorded LIVE. My daughter is always complaining when one of her favorite groups puts out a live recorded CD. She says they never sound as good as the studio CD. LOL. I don't know about her groups BUT Taylor can take the studio songs to a new place. I'm hearing the CD may not be in all the store yet, Sunny so call around.

  11. I've done a little calling this a.m. Not much luck, I'm trying to get that Target special. Two more stores nearby to give a ring...

Stopped by Walmart at lunch no CD and they didn't have Kelly's out either. I must say from the looks of the music section most people must be buying online it was pretty sparce. I think I'll just order online too. Last night Walmarts site said out of stock online but today it says instock so I hope that means it's selling better than first expected. I guess we are purists wanting to buy in a store. LOL.

Dee, I went early this morning to Walmart by me, they said they would have a limited supply in the store, got there nothing, also didn't see Kelly's CD either.
