According to Playbill News it looks like the Spring Tour that Taylor Hicks had talked about will be revolving around his role as that "Beauty School Drop-Out" singing Angel. Andrew Gans, writer for the Playbill News wrote,
""American Idol" winner Taylor Hicks, who recently completed a summer stint as Teen Angel in the Broadway company of Grease, will play that role for audiences across the country in the upcoming national tour of the fifties-themed musical."
Obviously Taylor Hicks impressed the show's producers sufficiently for them to make him an offer he could not refuse. I guess now, interested fans who may not have been able to attend this production in New York City can now make plans to go see Mr. Hicks and have their very own playbill signed.
Didn't I write in an earlier blog, that Taylor Hicks might be headed out West? Yes, I think I did. (It's all about the timing.)
"Going Out West" Tom Waits
lyrics:
"Well I'm goin' out west
Where the wind blows tall
'Cause Tony Franciosa
Used to date my ma
They got some money out there
They're giving it away
I'm gonna do what I want
Do what I want
And I'm gonna get paid"

The rest of the casting results are not available at this time. Here's another rumor, this production may feature much more of the Teen Angel than the original. Ah, Hell, what do I know?
"Taking it to the Streets" Taylor Hicks
I'm so disappointed in this news. Taylor is a sell-out...plain and simple. I saw the writing on the wall when he started to charge for meet and greets. His music career is over. Doubt that there is ANY comeback from that. Touring Grease is a major step down - he will not gain any new fans from this.
ReplyDeleteWhat totally kills me is the blatant misleading of the fans. Taylor blogged that he was taking a couple of weeks off, but in his latest blog it says he's currently in the recording studio. Which one is it? I mean they can't even get the story straight! LMAO!
This makes me want to cry. :(
ReplyDeleteTaylor has until late November/early December to play in the studio if that's what he's doing. It could be he doesn't consider recording in the studio as working. If he has indeed actually completed songs for the next CD it's workable to cut an album before the "Grease" tour. Workable but for some reason doesn't really hit me as something that may actually transpire.
ReplyDeleteFans just have to face the issue that Taylor Hicks has perhaps a different direction he wants to go in to find that success. Many want to just be able to see him again regularly at Ona's and such haunts. I'm telling you that's not going to happen.
Like an anonymous poster wrote on here a week or so ago, the lights sure are bright on Broadway. I think I know what they meant by that. Hell, I wish him the best. I'll stay tuned.
Can you not see him laughing his ass off? He did say he was bringing out an album this Fall, and we got "Early Works". He said he'd be touring this Spring, he's on the road with "Grease". Very funny, Taylor Hicks.
ReplyDeleteI guess I won't complain much - the man's gotta do what he's gotta do.
bobbi, Taylor Hicks is full of BS, at this point. Not credible and forgetable! Taylor is not a musician - he's a babbling baffon!
ReplyDeleteTaylor's going along in the national tour has been planned for more than a few days. Why couldn't he just say he's taking a break and then it's West ward ho, off to Cali-forn- I A? It is wierd how he likes to make these games up. Have you seen his myspace yet? He's playing three of your favorite songs by the way, Sunny on his player. What bugged me was him saying "I want to thank all of you for supporting and making Grease a successful
ReplyDeleteBroadway show. I truly appreciate your support as I broadened the artistic
horizon. I had an amazing summer in New York and was comforted by the many
familiar faces in the audience. Thank you to all the cast, stage crew, and
producers!!
Now, after a couple of weeks off, it is back to working on my next record."
Why would he say that knowing he was going to be touring all Spring in that show? There's no record is there?
"Taylor Hicks is full of BS, at this point. Not credible and forgetable! Taylor is not a musician - he's a babbling baffon!"
ReplyDeleteWhy do you even bother following his career with that kind of attitude?
I don't get it at all. People need to give Taylor a break for goodness sakes. He's in charge of his career, not the fans. I'm gonna sit back, hopefully catch a show on the road, and enjoy the great music he's given us. I'll be around for the next CD and tour. I ain't goin' anywhere. I'll always be a fan!
Taylor is going to do what is the best direction for him. This will also give him some opportunities to make some new fans out west don't you think? I think he will.
