Taylor Hicks (Not New) DVD Pre-Sale Via Amazon.com

Taylor Hicks' long promised DVD, "Whomp at the Warfield" that was filmed in San Francisco's famed Warfield Theater is up for pre-sale on Amazon.com - again.

"Whomp at the Warfield" has experienced several misfires in actually hitting the sales market in its storied past; previous promises have ended in frustration for fans declaring interest in purchasing this DVD. I recall, just last year, February, the disappointment expressed by many in the on-line community when once again the fabled concert footage was dangled on amazon.com only to get removed with just the explanation: "This item has been discontinued by the manufacturer".

I don't recall any reasons for the removal of the DVD from the amazon.com sales racks except that perhaps sales were not what they might have been desired. Speculation ranged from the fact that "Whomp at the Warfield" was initially viewed on the HDNet Concert Series back in October of 2007 and folks who watched it perhaps taped it.

Considering that footage was viewed almost two years previous from that February 2009 pull-date, I find that particular argument hard to swallow. Too, if you're one of the folks who recorded it on your TIVO or whatever device you may have for that sort of thing, many fans should realize that for the most part, DVDs come with those extra touches such as 'making of' and 'behind the scenes' footage.

Now I have a slight beef with the article tidbit posted in ainow.org promoting "Whomp at the Warfield" as reading slightly deceptively. Granted this DVD might seem 'new' to anyone who has not ridden the Soul Patrol choo-choo since 2006, but for those who had stepped aboard and still hanging in the passenger compartments or for many who have opted instead to sit in the scenery viewing dome cars know this DVD nor the footage involved not 'new'. I guess though, you could argue that "Whomp at the Warfield" being called, "new" could be somewhat comparable to purchasing a nice used car, that car is NEW to you.

Anyway, this time, I hope for the sake of those fans still riding aboard the Soul Patrol Express, that come this February, 2010, the fans are not disappointed reading, once again, "This item has been discontinued by the manufacturer". To pre-purchase this DVD, show your support for the man many attribute to being the engineer of the Soul Patrol train, visit amazon.com to reserve your copy. At least while they're still on sale.

  3. I've read that too, Rosie, yesterday, regarding folks getting the okay on shipping.

I'm really rather doubtful it would get cancelled again, that would be just too ridiculous. On the other hand, I wonder how long it will be up for sale, whether there is a finite number of copies that were created?

I will likely buy a copy since I never watched the HDNet concert; missed it for some reason.

Why was there no explaination when this was pulled before? The least Taylor and his mgmt could have done was show some respect for fans who have spent money on him in the past. Because he left fans up in the air and took them for granted, I won't be purchasing this. From what I've heard, it's not that good anyway and this particular show was poorly attended.

  5. I did hear the attendance was not good even for such an historic venue. Some who have seen it say when camera pans certain angles you see the scarcity of the crowd.

For the sake of completing a 'chapter' I will buy it but not sure when. Read that the video will be available in stores "nationwide" but which stores not specified.

Ordered mine from B&N since I get a discount AND I have a gift certificate! I remember Taylor had said something about his team re-thinking the CD and the DVD coming out at the same time. Better to spread it out in this economy.
Being a supplier to mail order catalogs I can attest to a lot of scrambling and changes in market strategy the last two years. This has been a scary time, worse than I have ever seen, and I've been doing this for 30 yrs.

Sunny, My DD went to Best Buy today, they didn't have any, she asked if they knew when it would be in. The youngman checked and it is in the shipment coming in tonight, he has reserved a copy for me. I wanted a copy to see it all the way through have seen many fan videos of that night. I had read also that the house was not packed that night. A couple of folks have recieved it and have said the quality was good. Looking forward to seeing it myself.

  9. JI, here is a rather positive review of Mr. Hicks' WATW DVD. I say good on him! 'thoroughly inspirational'. How nice reading something flirting with Hicks doing well? Quite.
