Taylor Hicks Cone Ranger: Saga of the Cone - Getting Soggy?

Okay, so it was cute initially. Taylor Hicks selected to make a little fun about his time riding the large plastic ice cream cone prop in his current gig as Teen Angel singing "Beauty School Drop-Out" in the national touring company, "Grease". He's been tweeting out various flavors in his tweets on Twitter to the fans who have come to congregate on that site. Why Twitter? It's 140 characters of brevity and it it seems fans find more information on Twitter about him than almost anywhere. Wait - there is that Boogie site. If you dare go there. Understand treading into the land of Boogie you may get access to some information and videos, but word: best to just read or to see and be not heard.

Anyway so we have Twitter and Taylor Hicks with my focus on the subjects of Mr. Hicks' Twitter tweets. (Say that five times fast.) As we've gone along on Twitter, Mr. Hicks has journeyed from seldom to never posting to actually knocking out about a tweet a week. Does he actually talk to his fans like I see other musicians and celebrities do? Not so much. Instead he relegates his tweets increasingly to naming ice cream flavors. Yes, flavors, like Cookies and Cream or Boysenberry. Hilarious reading some of the responses who immediately start vowing that flavor their favorite, or they don't like it but what about another flavor; it goes on and on. Apparently, from what I'm reading, some fans are even imagining he's sending secret messages with his flavors. I imagine Mr. Hicks sends those flavored tweets out then sits back reading and laughing at the result. I know I would.

Again, granted in the beginning, Mr. Hicks' ice cream tweets were a witty little concept, the tweets had the flavor, from time to time of "Where in the World...", or a hint of what might be coming up next in the Hicks' ice cream career field. The thing is - that's about all he does - the ice Cream tweets. That or he's promoting his next show with dates and places. There are, occasionally, some vague references to where he might have dined that day... Frankly for me it's getting redundant and downright soggy. It would be different if he'd intersperse the tweets about ice cream flavors with tweets with concert pics, an occasional short video or say something actually TO the fans not AT the fans. There's a big difference in "To" and "At". One guy who talks 'to' his fans, Chris Daughtry. Now I'm not using Daughtry as a jab at Taylor or anything idiotically related to the asinine A.I. battle but rather as an example since they both hit mass public consciousness around the same time. Talking "to" your fans works to attain connection, talking "at" your fans embodies a rather superior feel, incorporating a Distance...

I for one am glad I've other interests on Twitter and other interests in my life, period. If I were one whose main interest on Twitter was a person who once a week shouted out "Strawberry pimping" or some such, I'd likely lose interest. If I were a potentially new fan I'd be thinking by now, 'What in the Hell?". Of course, the old diehard fans from the American Idol days won't be thwarted; if Taylor Hicks just tweeted odd noises such as "ARGH" or "PFFFT" or "GAAAH" they'd likely be as entertained, respond back in kind and have a happy-jolly laugh about it all.

Now I know some of you dear readers will say there I am trying to tell Taylor Hicks what to do, but if you read carefully I'm doing no such thing. Instead I'm writing about what I am finding swirling into a boring little soft served idea from what, if utilized with other Twitter tweets might actually be worthy of two scoops in a sugar cone. So to those who disagree with me on my thoughts about the ice cream pimping, PFFFTTT! Oh, and by the way, lately my favorite ice cream flavor is coffee.

Aw come on you were reading Chills blog today weren't you? haha
The beauty of tweets are in the eye of the beholder. I dont' tweet but I read around and just the other day a read a few from Daughtry and remarked how boring they were. Something about video games, comic books and gazing at his wife. Barf.
And you're right coming from Taylor I'd probably fine aarg or akkk interesting. :-)
And he probably sticks to bland things because his fanbase has such a propensity to freak out over the dumbest things. Maybe some of them are what causes the blandness. I wish we would get a few more about what hes doing like the woman washing the bus or thinking they were chasing George Clooney. And he did send some song lyrics recently. I'm sure someone will speak to him about it, don't you think? LOL

taylor has been a favorite performer, but he's either shy or disengaged from fans. after the first concert i went to, he signed programs through a tall fence, with nary a comment. the second concert, he sang the entire show to the downstairs standees and never once acknowledged the fans who paid more for balcony seats. i am inclined to be a longtime fan, but he doesn't have an aura of connection with his audience as do much bigger stars such as james taylor, rod stewart, don mclean, etc. elvis was the master at this. maybe taylor is shy, but i'm beginning to wonder if there is a bit of arrogance or aloofness.

  3. Hi Henry8 long time no see! No I hadn't read Chill's but will remedy that in a few minutes. I talk to her on twitter almost everyday.

Daughtry tweets pics, videos from the shows from his fans, thanks his fans, talks about television shows, just a variety of things. He complains when he's had a bad night like when some idiot clawed at him and scratched his arm. (dumbass loons)

I'm thinking if T would loosen up and let some of his offbeat humor show more and damn the torpedoes so to speak it would be more interesting. lol

Anonymous, I've heard your story many times from folks who have seen T. Likely, and I might be the same in his boots, but the whole celebrity and fan thing daunting at times. There's a lot of nutty people out in the World.

  4. Anonymous12:40 PM

I've heard he's much better with fans now than he used to be. And with the acoustic shows lately he seems to be connecting more with the audience. Who knows why it has taken him so long to get more comfortable though I guess some artists never do get to that point.

  5. Anonymous1:41 PM

Chill and I were poking a little fun at the ice cream obsession just before I read your blog the other day.
Sounded like he was connecting with the fans at Smiths last night. :-)

  6. Anonymous2:03 PM

He was connecting with the bottom of countless Jaegar bombs last night. He should really take up drinking heavily, and do acoustic for a living. It suits him. Maybe drunken tweets would be more interesting, than ice cream flavors.

Albeit, some of the "hinting" ice cream flavors are probably about whatever flavor of the week, day or month, he's with at the moment. No doubt some of them are sexual innuendos.

He and said flavor probably sit in bed together, and laugh their assess off at the @'s that he gets.

    Hell, I know I would.

He could tweet "The rhino took the E train to station A and got off to have coffee ice cream."

And, they'd be off googling and making scenarios.

It's just not enough to sustain a dwindling fanbase. His ice cream tweets are sweet, but, variety, (as he probably knows) is the spice of life.

  7. Anonymous3:43 PM

Bingo on the flavor of the day having sexual references. Some of his tweets are thinly disguised double entendres. Some fans wonder why he doesn't have a steady girlfriend...I think it's because he has a wandering eye.

He plays a game of cat and mouse with his fans. I don't think his strategy is working.

  8. Anonymous4:16 PM

There's no doubt in my mind that his tweets are unmitigated veiled double entendre.

It's what keeps me hanging on. Because there seems to be a handful of people that kind of get his enigmatic twisted sense of humor.

My guess is he loves a chase, he knows most will go on a wild goose chase for some of his non-flavor musical reference tweets. The flavor ones, for the most part, are innuendo, that warm the cockles of his sadistic cold black heart. lol

  9. Dullsville. Yeah, he probably gets a good laugh out of the responses.

"Watch this! Gimme an ice cream flavor! Any flavor! Oh hell, here, type it in yourself," tossing his blackberry to a friend. "They'll love it!"

Sorry, T, but time for some new material.

  10. Hi Caryl! Could not agree more and likely your scenario more fitting rather than the sexual innuendo. But who am I to say. lol

Thanks guys for all the responses! Love seeing you here at IDOL BLUES and interested in our egnimatic hero.

"He plays a game of cat and mouse"

Yes and I'm beginning to resent it. Maybe I should find someone nicer to follow.
