It was pointed out on MJ's (I think) that the tune sounded like a Delbert McClinton song. Gary Nicholson is all over the place - he helped Bo Bice out on his last record. Sadly for Bo that hasn't panned out the way it should, it's a good album. It's like Bice is carrying some kind of curse from Idol around with him. lol

YKW, I did miss you the past several days! Who has been sitting on my swing? Can they not read my name carved into the seat?

Listened to that link, it is true plenty of C&W tunes carry a similar hook and melody. It's just (sick Fangurl gush) Hicks is a hero of sorts for me. I had a hard time with the concept he'd take Achy Breaky and make a new tune from it. *sadness*

I'm kicking my flu-bug and my achy breaky heart is mending. Tell whoever is sitting on my swing, best find a new seat.Sunnyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00060218181879503238noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21509393.post-57026386751887033762009-02-28T23:37:00.000-06:002009-02-28T23:37:00.000-06:00Glad to see you back at the playground, Spin. LOL!

Thoughtful comments on the CD, and I can sympathize with your distress over "Keeping It Achy Breaky". I felt much the same way over "Give Me Tonight" on the TH CD. I mean, I was sick over it. I guess I just had to focus on what was good, what I enjoyed.

Consider this, though. I've listened to a lot of country music in my life, grew up on it. A lot of what I listened to was OLD country, honky tonk style music. What I heard on "Keeping It Real" was a standard hook for that style. It sounds similar to Achy Breaky, but the way I'm remembering it, it was more the standout of the hook than anything else.
I guess I'll have to wait 'til Monday to hear it again.
In the meantime, give this a listen and see if it sounds familiar to you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7yU9Z4nW6Y

Lemme know what ya' think...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21509393.post-47078425828599051362009-02-28T20:13:00.000-06:002009-02-28T20:13:00.000-06:00About Achy Breaky heart. I know that using the tune of one novelty song to write another has been done before and no doubt will be again. It was the lyrics that were of most importance here. Just an effort to be light hearted I think. And I am not worried about it.
The main writer was Tom Hambridge who also wrote Nineteen. A very respected country writer who has written for many, many artists, including, gress who, Billy Ray.
Didn't write Achy Breaky but has written for him. The other writers on the song are Delbert McClinton. Gotta believe Delbert knows what hes doing. And Gary Nichelson another award winning country writer. who has worked with almost everybody it seems. All these guys are well acquainted with Billy Ray. so I don't think its any big deal. I think we should just enjoy the words they put to the song. I have a couple of small criticisms about the album but this ain't one of them. It's like the words were already assembled in my head and had to come out on the blog. Hey, maybe that is what constitutes verbal diarrhea. *thinking about that*
Caryl, I read on a site someone else saying they thought he was being funny by some of his stilted pronunciations. We did not take it that way, but then hey, we may have all misinterpreted it simultaneously.

I do like a few of the songs on this CD, wanting to hear the others that were excluded from this group. It's hard to be so critical of him as an artist as I know how hard he's working to make success for himself.

Thanks for what you said in your email about my commentary on Grey's. I appreciate and value your opinions as well. It's witty, intelligent and full of imagery. I felt like I was there with you. And not a typo in sight.

The achy breaky thing is curious. I'll have to wait to see how that plays out. I thought I noticed some over-pronunciation in this song but I thought he was doing it for comedic effect. I only listened to each song once, though.

I liked most of the songs and loved a few. I can't wait to turn it up loud when I get the CD.

(My origianl comment was better! :( )carylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16584071470778778229noreply@blogger.com
